Tottenham have lost out on attacker Adam Lallana after he agreed a new deal with Liverpool, according to a report.
The Express has claimed that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was keen on reuniting with the 28-year-old.
However, the report states that won’t be happening with the England international agreeing a new four-year deal at the Reds worth a stunning £120,000-a-week.
The player’s contract is currently set to run out in 2019, but his electric form under Jurgen Klopp has meant that the club are keen to tie him down to a new deal.
It is said that Lallana will now earn the same amounts as James Milner and Daniel Sturridge with Philippe Coutinho the only player to earn more after recently agreeing a new £150,000-a-week deal.
Lallana has shone in his 24 appearances for the Merseyside giants this season, bringing a return of seven goals and seven assists.
He enjoyed a similar spell of form in his final season at Southampton under Pochettino, where he finished with 10 goals and eight assists from 42 encounters in all competitions.
The Argentine boss is keen to build on a very impressive Tottenham team, but he must now turn his attentions away from his former man.
Football Insider verdict:
Lallana would have been an incredible signing for Tottenham, but even with their recent success players rarely swap Merseyside for the north London outfit. There is also the matter that the England international has been offered an incredible deal and one that he possibly couldn’t have imagine being offered before after playing in the lower reaches of the English pyramid with Southampton. Performances from Spurs this season has shown that they need more strength in their attacking ranks to fill in for the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Harry Kane. However, they must now look elsewhere.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Daniel Levy is keen to seal this Spurs deal fast.
