Report: Tottenham line up bargain double raid from PL rivals despite massive transfer kitty
Tottenham are eyeing up a raid on relegation-bound West Brom for a double bargain deal this summer despite having a £120million transfer kitty, according to a report.
The Independent claim on their website that the Lilywhites have targeted both the Baggies’ centre back Jonny Evans and striker Jay Rodriguez, and believe that the pair will be available for a cut-price deal as the Midlands club prepare to drop into the second tier, something which could be mathematically confirmed this weekend.
West Brom captain Evans, 30, has been a mainstay for his side this season with 29 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice, while 28-year-old Rodriguez, who worked under Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton, has 11 goals in 38 outings, having fully recovered from his injury nightmare of recent years.
Football Insider verdict
While Spurs might be looking for Premier League experience as well as some cheap deals to snap up this summer, are the West Brom pair really of the quality Pochettino is looking for. Neither would appear to improve the starting XI and other than the domestic cup competitions, it is difficult to see where either would get any game time. Of the pair, Evans seems the more likely capture, especially if Toby Alderweireld left, but that would still be a bid downgrade from the Belgian. Spurs need to be looking at progress rather than staying at their current level, and with a reported transfer budget of £120million, there are better options out there.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy must be in line for a stunning summer transfer window after a £52.3million windfall.
