Tottenham are ready to pull off an ambitious double swoop from reigning Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg this summer for 20-year-old attacking pair Dimitri Oberlin and Amadou Haidara, according to a report.
Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichtin claim on their website that Spurs have targeted the Austrian Bundesliga duo as top targets on their wishlist, with attacking midfielder Haidara starring for the senior side and striker Oberlin impressing on loan at Swiss top flight side FC Basle.
It is claimed that the Super League leaders have an £8.8million (€10million) purchase clause included in the loan contract for the nine goal hitman, who has also been utilised as a winger and a second striker.
Meanwhile German side RB Leipzig are also reported to be keen on Haidara, who is said to be a long-term target of Tottenham, after his 42 appearances for Salzburg across all competitions this season, meaning that Spurs’ plans of a double swoop are ambitious.
Football Insider verdict
It seems as though Mauricio Pochettino and the transfer team might be playing a waiting game over Oberlin, considering the purchase clause in his contract, while Haidara could well be the centre of a European transfer battle if Leipzig’s interest is indeed there. A double swoop would therefore be something of a coup, but at least bringing the pair over together means they have someone they know on hand, and should make the transition from Austria/Switzerland to north London much easier. The duo’s age suggests they should be signings for the future but having already established themselves as senior stars, they look destined for the top. Will that be with Tottenham? Only time will tell.
