Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro, according to a report.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claim that the 30-year-old is free to leave the La Liga club this summer and is on the verge of moving to Spurs.
It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino is keen on another forward in the transfer window and is willing to pay £26.2million to land France international Gameiro.
The report details that the deal is expected to be completed over the next few days and Atletico will be thrilled to recuperate most of the £28million they paid for him last summer from Sevilla.
Gameiro made 46 appearances during his first season with Atletico and had to play more a supporting role to star man Antoine Griezmann.
The forward still managed 16 goals and seven assists, but has not done enough to convince Diego Someone.
Meanwhile, Spurs are searching for some additional support to their talisman Harry Kane in attack as Vincent Janssen endured a difficult first season in English footabll.
Football Insider verdict:
Gameiro has proven himself to be a prolific scorer in both the French and Spanish league during his career, meaning he would have every chance of replicating that in the Premier League. He has had to rotate with Fernando Torres for much of the season, but still chipped in with a respectable 16 goals. The powerful striker is strong in the air and clinical when he gets in the 18-yard box. Spurs need some additional support to help them compete across all competitions next year and Gameiro does have pedigree in European competitions. Janssen is likely to improve next year after adapting in his first season and Pochettino will hope to have three firing strikers at his disposal.
In other Tottenham transfer news, they are braced for a £40million bid from Manchester City.
