London rivals West Ham and Tottenham are both ready to swoop for FC Basel defender Manuel Akanji, according to a report.
Swiss publication Blick claim on their website that the duo, as well as Premier League rivals Southampton, are keen on securing a deal for the 22-year-old international centre back, with his club having slapped a £17.5million (€20million) price tag on his head.
It is claimed that German giants Borussia Dortmund are leading the hunt for the four-cap powerhouse, but have only offered £13.3million (€15million) to try and tempt Basel into selling up.
He has been a regular for the club, with 28 appearances already this season, including turning out in all six of his side’s Champions League matches, finishing second to Manchester United in their group to set up a last-16 clash against Manchester City.
Football Insider verdict
Out of the two London clubs battling for his signing, West Ham seem like the side more likely to be in pursuit of Akanji this window, with David Moyes known to be looking for defensive reinforcements. Mauricio Pochettino is well stocked at centre back, even with Toby Alderweireld out of action, having seen both Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth through the door over the summer. Dortmund could pose a problem for both clubs though, as they appear to be well ahead of anyone else in securing his signing, and the English duo will have to move fast to prevent them from signing him up.
In other West Ham transfer news, the club are ready to secure a £15million move for a young enforcer after a bid was tabled.
