Report: 23-year-old rejected Barcelona to agree terms with Manchester City
By Aramide Oladipo
Bernardo Silva rejected the chance to sign for Spanish giants Barcelona this summer before completing a move to Manchester City, according to a report.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claims that the Catalan club attempted to lure the 23-year-old to the Camp Nou in the transfer window but the player was not sold on their idea of their project nor keen to work under new boss Ernesto Valverde.
The report claims that the Portuguese playmaker does not regret moving to the Emirates Stadium this summer and he is looking forward to work under Pep Guardiola this season.
Silva made his debut for his new club on Saturday afternoon, coming on in the final 10 minutes of the match as City defeated newly-promoted Brighton 2-0 in their opening fixture of the new Premier League season.
The Portugal international will be hopeful that he can replicate last season’s form where he contributed with 11 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for French outfit Monaco.

The youngster’s performances helped to guide the side to win their first league title since 2000 and also reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Silva joined the Manchester club for a reported fee of £43million and put pen to paper on a five-year deal.
Football Insider verdict
It has been the transfer window from hell as far as Barcelona are concerned. They have lost one of their best players in Neymar and they are struggling to complete deals for Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele. City supporters will be delighted that Silva decided to turn down the chance to play for the La Liga giants and join them this summer. Silva would have been a perfect candidate to replace Neymar as he is a very creative player and he could have potentially formed a potent partnership with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi this season. Silva has the potential to be one of the finest summer signings this campaign once he fully adapts to the English game.
In other Manchester City transfer news, manager Pep Guardiola is considering a summer move for this defensive duo.
