Revealed: Cardiff City and Swansea City in race to sign Macaulay Langstaff

Cardiff City, Swansea City, Bristol City and Preston North End are chasing Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff, sources have told Football Insider.

The red-hot forward, 25, is one of the most sought-after players in the Football League following his goalscoring exploits with Notts County.

Langstaff has followed up his 32-goal haul for Gateshead in National League North last season with 18 goals in 20 games for Notts County so far this season.

His form has not gone unnoticed among clubs higher up the football pyramid with Cardiff, Swansea, Bristol City and Preston all making regular checks on Langstaff this season ahead of the January window.

The Stockton-on-Tees-born hitman is out of contract in June 2024.

Notts County owners Christoffer and Alexander Reedtz have insisted their star man is not for sale in the January window.

However, as quoted by Nottinghamshire Live (7 November), Alexander conceded an “extraordinary offer” would be enough to prise Longstaff away from Meadow Lane.

The striker, who has apparently compared himself with Man City superstar Erling Haaland, has helped fire his side to second in the National League.

In contrast, interested clubs Cardiff and Bristol City sit just a point above the relegation zone during the pause in action due to the World Cup.

Swansea and Preston will continue their fight for a play-off place when action resumes on 10 December.

Of the four interested sides, only Bristol City’s Nakhi Wells has managed to hit at least seven goals so far this season.
