Celtic want to re-sign Patrick Roberts this summer following his calamitous spell in Spain, Football Insider understands.
The Manchester City winger, 22, was a huge fans favourite during his previous two loan spells with the Hoops running from January 2016 to the summer of 2018.
But his career has taken a downturn after he was loaned out to City’s Spanish partner club Girona this season, failing to score a single goal or complete 90 minutes for the La Liga club.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the Scottish champions are keeping close tabs on the right-sided winger and his potential availability as they assess the possibility of bringing him back to the club for a third spell.
Roberts has just a year remaining on his City contract and this summer represents their last opportunity to secure a significant fee for the player signed for £11million from Fulham in his teens.
Celtic are keen on taking advantage of Roberts’ potential availability despite the exit of former manager Brendan Rodgers, who hailed Roberts as a “brilliant” player and a “big talent”.
The left-footed attacker initially joined Celtic on an 18-month loan in three-and-a-half years ago, scoring 18 goals in 78 appearances while winning seven trophies at the club.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that one of the club’s star players is set to sign for a big hitter.
