Leeds United will pocket a stunning £177million Premier League windall if they win the Championship play-offs, Football Insider can reveal.
The Yorkshire giants are three matches away from the holy grail of the English top flight as they prepare for the first leg of their play-off semi-final against Derby County this evening.
Leeds will face either Aston Villa or West Brom in the final if they overcome Derby, who finished sixth and nine points below them in the Championship campaign that finished last weekend.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side had a wretched end to the league season after taking just one point from their final four matches just when they had automatic promotion within their grasp.
But they have the safety net of the play-offs and the knowledge that a mammoth cash prize is guaranteed if they can end their 15-year spell in the Football League this month.
Figures from the Premier League show promoted clubs are guaranteed £94.7m from TV money next season even if they finish bottom of the 2019-20 league.
This is supplemented by parachute payments of £44.9m and £37.3m in the event of relegation in the first campaign, totalling £176.9m of nailed-on cash.
A third parachute payment would be due of £18.4m if the promoted club stay in the top flight for at least one campaign before being relegated.
