Exclusive: Leeds compile dossier on West Brom player out of contract next year

Leeds United are keeping close tabs on West Brom rising star Nathan Ferguson, Football Insider understands.

The Yorkshire giants are among many English clubs who have been alerted to the immense promise of the versatile Baggies defender.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club are compiling a dossier on Ferguson, 19, and are planning to scout him regularly after early-season checks.

Ferguson has burst onto the scene at the Hawthorns with a string of impressive performances at left-back even though he is a more naturally right-sided defender.

The England Under-19 international has started 11 of West Brom’s 12 Championship matches this season and gone on to play the full 90 minutes in them all.

Slaven Bilic has spoken glowingly of Ferguson but his future is in doubt as his contract expires at the end of the season.

West Brom want to keep Ferguson and hope to extend his current deal, especially with the club mounting a promotion challenge in the Championship.

Scouts from leading Premier League and European clubs are beating a path to the door of Ferguson, whose versatility and pedigree has them raving.

However, Leeds are in with a chance to land the teenager as he wants to play regular first-team football rather than be on the sidelines at an elite club.

Bilic’s side are top of the league with 25 points, two ahead of Leeds, who are second in the division.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club have suffered a major new injury blow to star player.
