Revealed: Major update on Lamela potentially quitting Tottenham

Erik Lamela has nine matches to convince Jose Mourinho he has a future at Tottenham, Football Insider understands.

The Argentina international’s position at Spurs beyond this season is up in the air after another injury-disrupted campaign.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that the club are likely to listen to offers for Lamela barring a change of heart between now and the end of the Premier League campaign.

Lamela will be given the platform to show Mourinho why he can be a key player going into next season, the Portugese’s first full term in charge.

But there is a growing sense he could be heading out of north London this summer if the club receive an attractive enough offer.

Lamela has two years remaining on his Tottenham contract, which he signed in 2018.

Signed for £30million from AS Roma in August 2013, the summer Gareth Bale left for Real Madrid, the Argentine is one of the club’s longest-serving players.

Tottenham would not get that kind of fee for Lamela in the next window, especially in a post pandemic transfer market in which prices are expected to tumble.

Football Insider revealed in February that Spurs were willing to let the Argentina international go this summer.

The attacking midfielder has made just 10 Premier League starts among 27 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

Jose Mourinho has started him just three times in the league since he took over, including in the 1-1 draw against Burnley that preceded the lockdown.

In other Tottenham news, the club have had a huge boost in pursuit of left footer.
