EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Sheffield United have beaten Leeds United to the signing of Brighton midfielder Oliver Norwood with the Northern Ireland international set for a medical on Monday, Football Insider sources understands.

The Blades have agreed a deal to sign Norwood on loan until January with the deal set to become permanent for £2million when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Leeds United held talks about landing the 27-year-old on a permanent or loan deal, while Hull had a number of bids rejected by Brighton for Norwood earlier this summer.

Sheffield United have moved quickly to agree a deal with Brighton for Norwood and he is expected to tie up his move to Bramall Lane on Monday.

Norwood is well down the pecking order at Brighton and he spent last season on loan at Fulham, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

Former Manchester United trainee Norwood will help fill the void by Lee Evans’ departure from Sheffield United to Wigan and his arrival will come as a big boost to Blades boss Chris Wilder having seen his side lose two of their opening three Championship games.

In other Leeds United news, the club WILL now sign a Premier League big name after he snubbed offers from two of their rivals.
