Manchester United are plotting a summer swoop for Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier, Football Insider can reveal.

The Premier League giants are keeping close tabs on the availability of the England international as they prepare to overhaul their squad in the forthcoming window.

United tried to sign Dier, 25, two years ago when Jose Mourinho was manager and Mauricio Pochettino admitted the player had his head turned by the interest.

A source close to United told Football Insider that the club are ready to make a fresh move, as they’re convinced Pochettino will be ready to sell Dier this summer.

The versatile performer, who can also play at centre-back and at right-back, has had a season of mixed form, injuries and illness in which he has made just 16 Premier League and two Champions League starts.

United feel Pochettino may regard Dier as expendable as he looks to raise funds to bolster his own squad following consecutive fallow transfer windows.
