West Ham are set to make an approach to Tottenham in a bid to sign Victor Wanyama on loan in January, Football Insider can reveal.
The east Londoners are plotting a move for the Kenya international early in the winter window as they look to bolster their central midfield options.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos are admirers of Wanyama and believe he would be a quality mid-season addition.
The former Southampton player was a key man at Tottenham in his first season at the club, when he was the regular partner for Mousa Dembele as the team finished second in the Premier League.
But he missed a big chunk of last season due to a knee injury and has subsequently struggled to win back his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s side amid competition from Dembele, Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko.
The 27-year-old has made just six appearances this season and is yet to start a league match.
He failed to make the Tottenham squad for their 3-2 Premier League win against Wolves on Saturday but played the full 90 minutes on Wednesday night as his team beat West Ham 3-1 to knock them out of the League Cup.
In other West Ham news, Football Insider can reveal a Premier League mega name has contacted the Hammers hierarchy about a sensational January return to the club.
