West Ham have informed highly-rated youngster Jay Mingi he will be getting released this summer, Football Insider understands.

Mingi, 18, is out of contract at the east London club this summer and a Hammers source has told Football Insider the hierarchy have opted against offering the central midfielder a new deal.

The teenager has showed plenty of signs of promise but he has been unable to make a senior appearance for West Ham or come close to breaking into the first team.

Mingi has made 26 appearances for West Ham Under-18s, four of which have come this season but he has not featured for the age-group side since November.

News of Mingi's availability on a free transfer is sure to alert a number of Football League clubs who are looking to bring in a new defensive midfielder this summer.

The young Englishman played for Charlton Under-23s on Tuesday as he undergoes a trial with the League One club ahead of a possible transfer.
