Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has boldly claimed that Everton will finish above Liverpool in the Premier League next season.
Keys’ predication comes after the Toffees announced the signing of Wayne Rooney on Sunday, as Ronald Koeman continues to bolster his squad with top talent.
Rooney joins Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Michael Keane in signing up for the Everton first team after he returns to Goodison Park following a 13-year-long spell at Manchester United.
Now working for BeIN Sports, Keys has also hailed the incredible recruitment work that has been carried out by Koeman in recent weeks.
“Loving Everton’s business this summer. Here’s an early call – they finish above Liverpool this season,” he said on his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.
Everton have not finished above Liverpool since the 2012/13 season, while last seasons impressive effort to qualify for the Europa League still saw them sit 15 points adrift of Jurgen Klopp’s side who secured Champions League football.
The Reds have only completed two signing so far this summer.
Dominic Solanke joined from Premier League title holders Chelsea before Mohamed Salah became Klopp’s latest recruit when he secured a switch from Serie A giants Roma.
When the two Merseyside rivals came to blows last season, Liverpool ran out as winners on both occasions – forcing Everton to wait even longer to get their first win over their local rivals since 2010.
In other Everton news, former Liverpool attacker Stan Collymore has said what he hopes Rooney achieved at Goodison Park.
