Gabby Agbonlahor has slammed the “ridiculous” claim from Jason Cundy that Neil Lennon is facing the Celtic sack.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the recently-retired former Aston Villa striker is baffled that there is any possibility the Hoops could let their manager go.
Celtic are facing their biggest title challenge in a decade due to a resurgent Rangers and Lennon’s side lost their third consecutive home match last week in the first time in three decades.
Cundy tore into the Celtic performance after the 4-1 Europa League home defeat to Sparta Prague and insisted there is no way Lennon should keep his job.
“Gutless. Spineless. Neil Lennon cannot survive after a performance like that,” Cundy said on talkSPORT.
Agbonlahor, who works as a pundit for talkSPORT as well as Football Insider, explained why his colleague is well wide of the mark.
“Ridiculous. You can’t be saying that unless Rangers are joint on games and 10, 15 points ahead – then you can start saying that,” the former forward said. “The Scottish league can turn straight away, there’s some tough teams in there, you look at Aberdeen or Kilmarnock, that you’re not guaranteed to just win (against) any more.
“There’s only a few points in it, you could say three points, so for Neil Lennon to be under pressure is ridiculous.”
Celtic went into the international break
“I’m not sure about Celtic but I’m sure neutrals would like it to be a bit more tighter (rather) than Celtic win every game and it being so easy.
“I think Neil Lennon’s doing a great job there and you can’t lose sleep on Celtic because they’ve got everything in them to come and win this league title and win the cup and do well in the Europa League because they’ve got a great manager and a great team.”
