Rio Ferdinand has named three Tottenham players in his Premier League team of the week after their north London derby triumph over Arsenal.
Spurs secured all three points against the Gunners with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane, as they keep the pressure on league leaders Chelsea at the top of the table.
Posting on his YouTube channel entitled “Five”, Ferdinand picked Jan Vertonghen, Kieran Trippier and Kane in his side, leaving out the likes of Alli and Christian Eriksen.
Former England defender Ferdinand heaped praise on the impact made by Vertonghen and Kane, while lauding Trippier for dealing with the pressure of replacing Kyle Walker.
“Vertonghen kept a clean sheet in the derby; the last north London derby at White Hart Lane,” Ferdinand stated. “Trippier came in for Kyle Walker, England’s right-back; pressure. But he delivered.
“This guy (Kane) loves derbies. He just scores. He’s scored six goals in his last five north London derbies, he’s Spurs’ talisman. He’s the number nine of the team this week.”
The trio starred as Spurs reduced the gap at the top to just four points on Sunday afternoon, after Chelsea had increased the lead to seven points with a 3-0 win away at Everton.
The trio are likely to feature in some degree on Friday night, as Mauricio Pochettino’s men travel across London to face West Ham at the London Stadium.
Three points for Vertonghen, Trippier, Kane and the rest of the Spurs squad will see them move to within just a point of Antonio Conte’s side, who go up against Middlesbrough on Monday.
In other Tottenham news, this is Spurs’ best possible side to face West Ham on Friday.
