Robbie Savage: This is why Bruce is the perfect fit for Aston Villa

By Amir Mir

Robbie Savage believes Steve Bruce will be the perfect fit for Aston Villa because he is an “old school” manager.

Former Birmingham City and Hull City boss Bruce was appointed manager of the Championship side on Wednesday, replacing Roberto Di Matteo who was axed after 124 days in charge.

The club’s chief Tony Xia appointed Bruce and handed him the tough task of guiding a team two points off the relegation zone to a play-off place at the end of the campaign.

TV pundit Savage has backed his former Blues manager to succeed at the recently-relegated Villa Park club.

“Bruce will be a perfect fit for Villa because he is old school and all the players will start with a clean slate,” Savage wrote in his Mirror column.

“If you cross him, you’ll find he doesn’t suffer fools gladly – but he’s also a manager who makes his players want to do well for him.”

Bruce left Hull City in the summer after guiding the Tigers to promotion via the play-offs last term. The fourth promotion in the former centre-back’s managerial career.

Villa are currently 19th in the championship table with ten points from 11 games, having won just a single game this term, drawing a league high of seven and losing three.

Walter Zenga’s Wolves side travel to Villa Park on Saturday evening for a Midlands clash, in what is expected to be a tightly fought contest.

In other Aston Villa team news, this TalkSport pundit has claimed the club’s dressing room was divided into three under former manager Roberto Di Matteo.
