Roberto Firmino could exit Liverpool for Euro giants after proposal reported - pundit

Kevin Campbell has suggested Liverpool should be receptive to the idea of swapping Roberto Firmino for Barcelona forward Memphis Depay in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said a swap deal “could work” out for both parties.

According to Spanish outlet Sport (25 September), the Reds want to swap Firmino for Depay when the transfer window re-opens.

Firmino, 30, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield.

Depay, 28, was heavily linked with an exit from the Nou Camp in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise.

His contract with the La Liga giants runs until the end of June 2023.

When asked by Football Insider if there was value for both clubs and players in such a deal, Campbell said: “We have seen Barcelona do swap deals in the past.

“The one that springs to mind if Arthur [Melo] and [Miralem] Pjanic. They like a swap every now and again. If ever there was a club who would do that deal it is Barcelona.

“The bottom line is, if both players and both clubs were open to the swap it could work. I’m not sure if that is doable but if both players are up for it why not?

“Neither are regular starters at their clubs right now.”

Firmino has contributed three goals and three assists in five Premier League appearances this season.

Depay has scored once in three appearances for Barcelona.
