Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino has branded manager Jurgen Klopp as ‘excellent’ and a true motivator.
The German chief has come under fire in recent weeks, after Liverpool endured an embarrassing slump that left them with just three wins from their 13 outings since the start of the new year.
But Firmino, 25, believes Klopp is the right man for the job, and can lead them to the top four Premier League finish that they so badly crave.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “Working with him is excellent. He motivates us in a different way every day.
“In each training session he does something new and he helps us bring a motivation from within ourselves as well.
“I played against Borussia Dortmund quite a few times and I scored goals against them, but he was always a manager who gave off a very positive vibe and I always found him a very interesting manager.”
His reluctance to change the team’s tactical approach, and his refusal to bring in new reinforcements during the January transfer window have been the two main areas of criticism in the last three months.
Liverpool’s poor form in 2017 saw them crash out of both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup in the space of just three days, while their Premier League title hopes were left hanging in the balance.
The Merseyside club have since focused their attention on finishing in the top four, after falling 14 points behind Chelsea in the Premier League title race.
But they face increased competition from their rivals, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton currently jockeying for a place of their own, joining the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City as Liverpool’s direct rivals.
However, Firmino is under no illusions that Klopp is the man to lead Liverpool to success.
