Former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino could leave Al-Ahli for another Saudi Pro League outfit this month, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed a potential move to Steven Gerrard's Al Ettifaq is an option for the 32-year-old - who only left Anfield for the Middle East last summer.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (2 January) that Firmino is unlikely to return to the Premier League in the January window.

Liverpool

That is despite links with relegation-threatened Sheffield United.

Firmino joined Liverpool just days before Gerrard departed Anfield in his twilight years but the pair could reunite in Saudi Arabia as manager and player.

The ex-Brazil international was spotted at Liverpool's 4-2 win over Newcastle at home on Monday (1 January).

Al Ettifaq, who also signed ex-Reds stars Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson last summer, sit eighth in the table and are without a win since October.

Meanwhile, Firmino is not enjoying his time with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli after making the free transfer move away from Liverpool at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

It is believed the Saudi outfit, who sit third in the table, are willing to let him move on and find a new club in the January transfer window.

Liverpool

The 32-year-old has made 19 appearances across all competitions for Al-Ahli this term but hasn’t found the net since scoring a hattrick on the opening day of the season in August.

He notched 111 goals and 79 assists in 362 games for Liverpool and won a swathe of trophies - including the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
