Paul Robinson has lauded Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min after they broke a Premier League record against Crystal Palace.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the “phenomenal” pair deserved to be compared to the Premier League’s great partnerships.
The pair have have combined 14 times this season to overtake Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton’s previous benchmark of 13 goals with Blackburn Rovers in the 1994-95 campaign.
Incredibly, Kane and Son have set the new record with 11 games still to play this season.
When asked where the duo rank in history, Robinson told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs:
“They are up there with the Premier League greats and the Premier League great partnerships. They deserve to be compared to Shearer and Sutton, to Yorke and Cole and maybe they are even better than some of those great partnerships.
“Their record this year is phenomenal. It is no coincidence, there is a cohesion and an understanding there. They have got a formidable partnership.
“When you add Gareth Bale to that mix, wow. Kane and Son have been one of the best partnerships the Premier League has ever seen.”
Jose Mourinho saw Kane and Son’s record as an opportunity to dig at his critics.
He told Sky Sports: “If the stats I was given are correct – 100 goals scored in the season – which for a very defensive team, a very negative team, is not bad.”
