Paul Robinson has confessed "it does not look good" for Tottenham defender Joe Rodon under Antonio Conte.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one is baffled as to why Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have been given more opportunities than the 24-year-old.

Rodon was hauled off after 54 minutes of Spurs' shock 2-1 loss against FC Mura on Thursday.

According to Football.London's Alasdair Gold (24th November), Conte has told the Wales international he is competing with Eric Dier for the central position in his three-man defence.

On Monday, Gold revealed (29th November) that the centre-half is open to leaving the North London club on loan in January.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Rodon's future, Robinson said: "It doesn't look good for him but he has not been given a real opportunity.

"He was poor on Thursday but everybody was in a Spurs shirt. Nobody played well. You cannot judge him on that performance alone.

"He has played well for his country this year and last season he was good for Spurs.

"I cannot understand why Rodon has not been given more opportunities with players like Sanchez and Dier at the club. Romero is the only top-class centre-half they have got.

"Between now and January, I'm sure Rodon will be given an opportunity. If he doesn't take it, two new centre-halves will be signed in January."
