Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan would be "a great signing" for Celtic this summer, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Tottenham and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old is the "perfect fit" for Ange Postecoglou's side given his "age, experience and ability."

Celtic hope to beat Arsenal to the Australia international's signature by offering him a long-term contract and the number one shirt at Parkhead.

The goalkeeper, who has one year remaining on his contract with Brighton, is valued in the region of £3-5million.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the potential Hoops signing, Robinson said: "I'd never thought about that but it would be the perfect fit.

"Fraser Forster went up there and did a great job but they have struggled in that department since he's left.

"Mat Ryan was unlucky to lose his place at Brighton in my eyes. I think he still has a lot to give and I think he showed that in his handful of appearances at Arsenal last season.

"In my opinion, he is a top class goalkeeper. He would be a great signing for Celtic given his age, experience and ability. He would be a very stable presence between the sticks for them. I think he's a great option for them."
