Paul Robinson has spurned Virgil van Dijk and the other Anfield untouchables to name Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as the "best player" at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England goalkeeper hailed the England midfielder for making such an impact since his return from a horror injury.

It is a shock choice given Oxlade-Chamberlain has started only four of Liverpool's 15 league matches this season and Van Dijk was only narrowly beaten by Lionel Messi in the Monday Ballon D'Or vote for the world's best player this year.

Six other Liverpool stars were named in the top 30, with three of them - Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Alisson - also featuring alongside the brilliant centre-back in the top seven.

Asked by Football Insider to name Liverpool's best player, Robinson said: "Phwoar, it’s a tough one. The run that they're on, they’re sweeping all and sundry aside.

"You could literally go through the whole team; Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold Robertson - the two full-backs are the best fullbacks in the league - the front three, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who I rate very highly.

"There's a number of contenders for best player. I'm going to say Oxlade- Chamberlain, simply because I like the fact that he's been able to force his way into such a successful winning team already and have an impact. For me, he's been their best player."

Oxlade-Chamberlain was an unused substitute last night as Liverpool demolished Everton 5-2 with one of their best performances of the season.

He has made just four leagues starts among his 17 appearances this season, more than half of which have come from the bench.

In other Liverpool news, it can be REVEALED that there has been a major new Rhian Brewster transfer development today.
