Pundit issues emphatic Erling Haaland verdict after Man City press conference reveal

Paul Robinson has claimed Man City manager should “be happy” everyone is talking about Erling Haaland.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the media focus on Haaland, 22, could benefit City’s other players.

Haaland has starred for the Premier League champions this week, scoring against both Borussia Dortmund and Wolves.

As relayed by journalist Tom Young (14 September), Pep Guardiola told reporters to ask him about John Stones before Haaland at his press conference.

The City boss seemingly did not want Haaland to take all of the credit for the comeback win over Borussia Dortmund despite his ‘Johan Cruyff-like’ goal.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Guardiola’s comments at the press conference, Robinson said: “It is hard to avoid that because as football fans we idolise players.

“Haaland has rightfully got that at the moment. People in world football are amazed at what he can do. It is difficult for Guardiola to prevent that.

“If you solely focus on Haaland as a team though, it will be to your downfall.

“That City team is full of superstars. Kevin De Bruyne is probably the world’s best footballer.

“If I was Guardiola I would be happy everyone is talking about and focusing on Haaland. Leave the rest of the players to do the damage.”

Haaland has scored 14 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions this term.

He is the top scorer in both the Premier League and Champions League.
