Paul Robinson has claimed Bruno Guimaraes "will be a huge miss" for Newcastle United while sidelined with an ankle injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 25-year-old is by far the best signing of the new era at St. James' Park.

Guimaraes started Newcastle's 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday (15 January).

As shown by footage on Twitter, the centre-midfielder left the pitch crying after rolling his ankle at the start of the second half.

He left the stadium on crutches with a protective boot on his right foot.

According to the Daily Mail's Craig Hope (16 January), the Brazil international will be out for a matter of weeks rather than months.

A scan is said to have revealed no serious damage.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the news, Robinson said: "However long he is out he will be a huge miss.

"Out of all the signings that Eddie Howe has made, Guimaraes has been the best by a long way. He takes that team to the next level. When you look at the investment into the club, he by far has provided the greatest return.

"He has taken that team onto new heights. He really is a brilliant midfielder.

"They will really miss him for the games he is out. It is a busy period coming up as well so it has come at a difficult time as well."
