Robinson issues 'unbelievable' Ibrahima Konate claim after journalist's Liverpool reveal

Paul Robinson has claimed Liverpool have “dearly missed” Ibrahima Konate after the defender made an impressive return from injury last week.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Konate, 23, provides “security” and “stability” behind Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Konate made his first Premier League start of the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (6 November).

The centre-half starred alongside Virgil van Dijk as Jurgen Klopp’s side secured a 2-1 win.

As revealed by The Athletic‘s James Pearce (7 November), Konate won 85 per cent of his duels and made eight clearances over the course of the 90 minutes.

Speaking to club media (7 September), the France international hailed what was “a massive win” for his side.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Konate’s performance against Spurs, Robinson said: “He was unbelievable.

“Look, he is their best centre-half alongside Van Dijk. They dearly missed him when he was out.

“We saw it on numerous occasions against Spurs, he provides defensive security behind Trent. He provides stability. It gives Trent confidence knowing that he is alongside him.

“Konate and Van Dijk are the only centre-back partnership that have looked solid this season. If Konate is fit, he has to play. The problem is keeping him fit.”

Konate has made four appearances across all competitions for Liverpool this season.

His contract at Anfield runs until the end of June 2026.
