Paul Robinson has insisted Aston Villa stars will be “asset-stripped” and their star players will quit if the team are relegated.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England goalkeeper named Jack Grealish, Tyrone Mings, John McGinn and Tom Heaton as the players most likely to head out of the club if they go down.
Robinson claimed Dean Smith’s side has a “lot of quality” and he can’t see their star men willing to play in the Championship next season.
Villa will be facing a major battle to avoid relegation when the Premier League campaign eventually resumes, which may not be until the summer.
They are 19th in the table after 28 matches and two points adrift of safety.
When asked if a return to the Championship would lead to an exodus at Villa Park, Robinson told Football Insider: “Without a doubt. They will be in danger of getting asset-stripped if they go down.
“Grealish, Mings, Heaton and, McGinn. They have a lot of quality and if they do go down they will lose good players.”
Grealish has emerged as one of the outstanding player outside of the Champions League elite after taking his game to a new level this season.
Midfielder McGinn and centre-back Mings have also made strong impressions this season while goalkeeper Heaton is a proven Premier League performer and was in fine form before his campaign was wrecked by a serious knee injury at the start of January.
In other Aston Villa news, Darren Bent has told Football Insider the suspension of fixtures has stopped Dean Smith making a massive blunder.
