Paul Robinson has claimed Donny van de Beek would be a "great addition" to the Premier League amid speculation Newcastle United can win the race for the midfielder's signature.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Spurs and Leeds shot-stopper suggested the 23-year-old is part of an "outstanding" crop of young Dutch players currently rising through the ranks.

The attacking midfielder has been part of an Ajax side that has enjoyed great success in recent years.

French outlet Le10 Sport claim the Magpies have identified the Netherlands international as one of their top targets if a takeover is completed.

Donny van de Beek could be following his current teammate Hakim Ziyech to the Premier League this summer after the latter agreed to join Chelsea at the end of the season.

When asked by Football Insider if the attacking midfielder is of the calibre needed to take Newcastle to the next level, Robinson said: "I think he would be a great addition to Newcastle and the Premier League.

"We saw what Ajax did in the Champions League and the way that the Dutch national side has developed as well. This crop or group of young Dutch players coming through is outstanding.

"However, I do not think it will be just him that is linked with Newcastle, any player that is worth over £15million will be linked with a move this summer."

In 37 appearances this season, van de Beek has scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists.

Football Insider understands if the PCP Partners takeover is completed the prospective new owners will invest an initial £200million into the first-team.
