Paul Robinson has insisted Miguel Almiron has been the biggest let-down for Newcastle United this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England goalkeeper explained why he expected so much more from the attacking midfielder.
Signed in January from Atlanta United by ex-manager Rafael Benitez, Almiron has impressed Robinson with his pace but his end product has been a great disappointment.
The attacking midfielder has failed to open his goal account for the club in the 26 matches since his £20million arrival in January and he only has one assist to his name.
Asked by Football Insider to name Newcastle’s biggest disappointment this season, Robinson replied: “I think it’s Almiron. When he was brought in, there was a lot of
expectation. I don’t think he’s a bad player, he’s a good player but there’s a lot of work
needed on his end product.
“When he gets in the final third he does things too quickly without thinking.
“He’s very quick, you can see the assets that he’s got, he’s quick, he can turn defence
into attack very quickly.
“He’s an out ball but there needs to be more end product, there needs to be more to his game than just his pace and he gives away possession far too easily.”
Almiron had started Newcastle’s first 16 league matches of the season before missing out today against Burnley due to a hamstring injury.
The Paraguay international is expected to be fit to return for the team’s home match against Crystal Palace next weekend.
In other Newcastle United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are working on a deal to sign an Everton player for more than £10million in January.
