Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Daniel Levy after it was reported Tottenham have set their sights on signing Marcel Sabitzer this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one claimed Sabitzer, 27, would be a "sensational" signing in the summer transfer window.

German publication Bild claim Tottenham are the 'most likely' destination for the attacking midfielder who has little over one year left on his contract at RB Leipzig.

It is reported that the German club would demand a fee in the region of £35m for their captain despite his contract situation.

Sabitzer has enjoyed another fine season in the Bundesliga, with his 31 appearances across all competitions yielding seven goals and six assists.

When asked for his thoughts on the potential arrival of the Austrian midfielder, Robinson told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs:"Sabitzer is a sensational player.

"He really is a top player and I think he'd be a good signing.

"Spurs have been linked with him for a while and quite a few other top players and it tells you a lot about the chairman. It is credit to Daniel Levy really.

"It shows you that he is not afraid to spend big and he is not afraid to back his manager either."

The chairman's stance comes as somewhat of a surprise given the club's poor run of form since December.
