Paul Robinson has pointed the finger at Tottenham chiefs Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici after the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-White Hart Lane number one said Nuno, 47, should never have been appointed Jose Mourinho's successor.

Tottenham announced this morning that Nuno Espirito Santo and his staff have been relieved of their duties after just four months at the helm.

Ex-Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who was interested in the Spurs job in the summer before talks collapsed, is now set to take charge in a remarkable turnaround.

As exclusively revealed by Football Insider at lunchtime today (November 1st), the Italian will take training tomorrow after agreeing to become Spurs' new manager.

Robinson is baffled as to why the board did not appoint Conte previously.

"You can't blame Nuno because he was always going to take the job," he told Football Insider. "It is a dream job and it was a great opportunity for him.

"Daniel Levy and Paratici have to take the blame. 100 per cent. The appointment wasn't right. He was nowhere near their first choice in the summer. It begs the question, why did nobody else want to come?

"They want Conte in the summer and they want him again now. I can't imagine his demands have changed. It begs the question as to why they didn't make it happen in the summer?

"Instead they took a risk on somebody who wasn't first choice and wasn't up to the job."
