Paul Robinson is "surprised" by Fabio Carvalho's lack of minutes for Liverpool since the World Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested manager Jurgen Klopp should turn to 20-year-old amid other forwards' struggles.

Carvalho has only played twice for the Reds since the World Cup - a 3-2 defeat at Man City in the League Cup and a 1-0 win over Wolves in the FA Cup.

Speaking to Sky Sports (6 February), the winger revealed Klopp is also "talking" to him and giving him "constructive criticism."

Liverpool's next game is a Merseyside derby against Sean Dyche's revitalised Everton on Monday (13 February).

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Carvalho's current situation at Anfield, Robinson said: "I am surprised by his lack of minutes.

"He scored in the first game back after the World Cup so you thought he would have stayed in the team.

"Klopp has used many different players. He has barely picked the same team two games in a row. He is looking for the winning formula so you wonder why Carvalho hasn't been given an opportunity. I would have though he would be in the manager's thinking.

"He has not set the world alight since his move but he is still so young. Liverpool's other forward players have been struggling so why not give him a chance?"
