Robinson 'surprised' by Man City after what he spotted from Kyle Walker
Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Man City manager Pep Guardiola for his “genius” tactics against West Ham on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one was “surprised” to see Kyle Walker picking up midfield positions at the London Stadium.
A brace from debutant Erling Haaland helped Man City beat the Hammers 2-0 on Sunday (7 August).
Walker was often seen in a deep-lying midfield role for the Cityzens during the game, as was Joao Cancelo.
Speaking to club media (7 August), Guardiola lauded the “exceptional” Walker for what he described as “one of his best games” for the club.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the right-back’s performance, Robinson said: “Walker was dropping into a holding midfield position.

“It surprised me. He was in the middle of the park.
“City are going to have to break teams down. A lot of teams will play a low block against them. City will have to find different ways of breaking teams down and pulling teams out of position.
“That is something that Guardiola has clearly worked on. Walker went into the midfield and City played three at the back. It was genius.
“It is very difficult to mark because it is their own system. Nobody else does it. The last thing that West Ham would expect it to see Cancelo popping up down the left flank and Walker playing in a midfield role.
“City were so impressive. It looked too easy at times. They were toying with West Ham.
“It is going to take a lot for Liverpool to catch them if they continue playing like that.”
