Paul Robinson has tipped Antonio Conte to keep faith in his wing-backs at Tottenham despite a "disappointing" performance against Watford.

The former Spurs goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, defender Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal after they came under fire for their displays in Saturday's 1-0 win.

As quoted by football.london on Sunday (2 January), Conte admitted the wing-backs "need to improve" and be "more effective" in attacking positions.

Emerson completed just four successful crosses from 14 attempts, while Reguilon managed to find a teammate with just one of his three efforts (FBRef).

However, Robinson suggested Conte would stick with his current options instead of looking for reinforcements this month.

Asked if he thought Spurs would look to sign new full-backs after Conte's criticism, Robinson told Football Insider's Dylan Childs: "No.

"I think they've got two good wing-backs. Reguilon, the way he plays, we've seen his attacking prowess and ability in the final third.

"I just think it was a day where it didn't go right for them. The possession they had, the chances they created and the domination of the game was there.

"It would have been a 0-0 thrashing had they not scored in the last minute. They really dominated the game and played well.

"I don't think the full-backs and wing-backs have been an issue since the manager's been there.

"It was just that game and something he was so disappointed about that after the game he came out and said it."

Emerson has been Conte's first-choice right-back since the Italian's arrival at the club.

The 22-year-old has started eight out of a possible 11 games under the new manager.
