Rodgers wants last-gasp Celtic transfer blitz, £40k-a-week attacker eager for switch - reports

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate to make a last-gasp transfer blitz with the January transfer window now just days away from slamming shut, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that Rodgers wants to make a major statement of intent by splashing the cash in the next few days, especially after Leigh Griffiths was struck down with injury in the 1-0 win against Hibernian on Saturday.
Rodgers has also admitted that he may have to look to sign a new goalkeeper following Craig Gordon’s injury in the same game.
The Hoops are said to have set their sights on signing Chelsea attacker Charly Musonda on a permanent deal, instead of a loan deal that has previously been reported.
It is understood that the 21-year-old Belgian is eager to make the switch to Parkhead in order to take part in a title challenge and the Europa League, but Antonio Conte is not yet open to the idea of letting the attacking midfielder leave Stamford Bridge for good.
The Scottish Sun adds that Rodgers knows he may face an uphill battle to land Musonda as clubs from the Premier League and Europe, including Roma, are also interested.
Belgian news outlet HLN has reported that Musonda is earning £40,000-a-year with the Premier League champions.
Football Insider verdict
It would be a massive deal if Celtic managed to sign Musonda on a permanent transfer, but for the time-being, it is best if Rodgers just tries to sign him on loan until the end of the season and then work from there. In the summer, Celtic may be able to draw in more quality players if they are willing to splash the cash. The Hoops will most likely be back in the Champions League, which is a major pulling factor, and could be out to win a third domestic treble in a row. What player wouldn’t want to be a part of that? An extended run in the Europa League this season would also massively help finances to be able to get better players in. Rodgers just needs to plug gaps before Wednesday’s deadline, not overhaul his side with just a few days to go.
