Ruud van Nistelrooy would be interested in taking the Man United manager's job on a full-time basis, according to the club's former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period and remains very well-connected within the club, exclusively told Football Insider that he is focused on the job that has been asked of him for now.

In an official statement on 28 October, the club confirmed Erik ten Hag had been dismissed from his role, with Van Nistelrooy to take over as interim boss while they search for a replacement.

The current interim boss, meanwhile, has served as Ten Hag's assistant manager since the summer and there had been suggestions that he could step up into the full-time manager's role.

He also has previous experience in a top job, having led PSV Eindhoven to win the 2022 Johan Cruyff Shield and the 2022-23 KNVB Cup before resigning from the position.

The former scout, who was instrumental in bringing the Dutchman to Old Trafford in 2001 and worked closely with him, has now insisted that the former striker would be a good fit for the role.

"I'm glad he's taken the interim job," he told Football Insider.

"I know Ruud well, he's a great person and would be a good fit for the job.

"He's very focused, and he's unwavering in his decisions.

"He's the type of person who knows what he wants and knows how to get it.

"It's the type of mentality which would serve him well in management - he doesn't take any nonsense.

"But, he's agreed to take over as the interim boss and is only focused on doing the job that has been asked of him for now.

"It looks like he'll be in charge for the Leicester game at least, but the length of his time in charge will depend on how quickly they can find a replacement for Ten Hag.

"I have no doubt he'd be interested in the role if it was offered, but I haven't heard anything to suggest that would be the case."
