'Sack them all' - Celtic fans explode as shock board statement makes failures worse
Celtic fans have erupted with anger on social media after the club's chiefs publicly addressed their concerns following a troubling transfer window.
Celtic's start to the new season as not been ideal from an off-field point of view, despite the fact they sit top of the Scottish Premiership with 10 points from their first four league games.
Their board struggled to get transfer business done all summer as they waited to see if they were set to qualify for the Champions League or the Europa League, and it ended up being the latter as Brendan Rodgers' side were beaten over two legs in the UCL playoffs by underdogs Kairat Almaty.
Hoops fans voiced their displeasure at the lack of transfer activity with chants of “sack the board” throughout numerous games while the window was still open, but things went from bad to worse as the deadline edged closer after they left themselves seriously short in attack with Adam Idah sold to Swansea City.
Kasper Dolberg’s move to Celtic was hijacked by former club Ajax, and they missed out on capturing David Datro Fofana on loan from Chelsea, with the eventual signing of Kelechi Iheanacho met with anger and pushback from the Celtic supporters.
Celtic fans fume at club's statement explaining transfers and recruitment processes
Celtic fans have been angry at the club's business and their lack of transfer activity, but the board wanted to put things right by releasing a statement, via X, on Saturday (6 September) evening addressing their concerns.
One section of the statement read: "Like every supporter, we are ambitious for Celtic...we are disappointed, this season, not to compete in the Champions League, but we are determined to succeed both domestically and in Europe."
They went on to state: "It is not always possible to achieve all of the objectives set within a transfer window, and that is regrettable. We share our supporters’ disappointment, and we will always continue to review and seek to improve our strategy and execution," while also trying to explain the club's recruitment model and how they need to stay in line with UEFA Sustainability Regulations.
The Herald have since reported that the club should have had around £100million in the bank for the summer window based off last year's revenue figures, yet they only spent around £13m on new players.
Celtic fans have again expressed their anger and frustration at the board and their lack of transparency on X, despite the lengthy communication, with one supporter replying to the statement to say: "100% A ChatGPT response. Sack them all," while another added: "You’ve somehow managed to make it worse. Bravo."
