Sadio Mane causing Liverpool chiefs a 'headache' after 'huge' reveal - pundit

Sadio Mane’s “outstanding” performances are giving Liverpool chiefs a “headache” as they try to secure him to a new contract.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Mane put in another crucial display in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Man United last night (19 April).

After scoring at Anfield, the 30-year-old has now five goal contributions in his last four starts across all competitions.

A Liverpool source told Football Insider on Sunday (17 April) the Reds are planning to offer Mane a new contract but will not break the bank to keep him.

He is out of contract at the end of next season and both want parties to extend his stay but Fenway Sports Group do not want to hand him a “huge” deal that will break their wage structures.

“100 per cent they have to keep him,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Mane’s been outstanding. Sometimes he can be hot and cold but recently he’s been very hot.

“It just shows that he can play in any role in that front three. He’s playing as a centre-forward at the moment and is doing a great job. He’s got movement, holding the ball up, running in behind.

“Whoever is sorting out the contracts at Liverpool is going to have a headache. Mane’s price is going up and up with these performances.”

Mane has scored 19 times and provided three assists in 42 games across all competitions this term as Liverpool remain in the hunt for a historic quadruple.

They are next in action on Sunday (24 April) when they welcome Merseyside rivals Everton to Anfield.
