Sadio Mane could 'kick the door down' to complete Liverpool transfer after Sky update - expert

Alex McLeish has suggested Sadio Mane could “kick the door down” to force a move out of Liverpool if he wanted to this summer.

However, the former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he cannot see the 30-year-old leaving Anfield.

As reported by Sky Sports Germany on Monday (9 May), Bayern Munich are interested in poaching Mane from Liverpool as he heads into the final year of his contract.

It is said Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic met with Mane’s agent and discussed a possible move.

As revealed by Football Insider last month (17 April), Liverpool are planning to offer the versatile forward a new contract.

McLeish insisted he would be surprised if the Senegal international pushed to leave but admitted the attacker might want a new challenge.

Asked if he thought Mane could be on the move this summer, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I don’t think so.

“I feel if these individuals want something different then they’ll get it. They’ll be able to kick the door down and do it, or else they can just run down their contracts.

“But I think Sadio Mane is in an absolutely brilliant moment. He has been for the last three years or so. One of the best strikers in the world and, without doubt, the Liverpool fans absolutely adore him.

“Why would he leave with the relationship that he’s got with that club? At the same time, he may want something else in his life. That would be the only caveat, I would say, why they wouldn’t want to sign for their clubs again.

“I’d say the only reason that they may want to leave is just to try something different. At the moment he’s one of the most lauded players in the world and one of the best strikers in the world.

“Him and Salah in the same team, now they’ve got Diaz who looks an absolute whirlwind revelation of a player. What’s not to like about the Liverpool front three.”
