Tottenham's bid to push through the signing of Davinson Sanchez has hit a stumbling block because they are a long way off agreeing a fee with Ajax, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his personal website that the London giants have tabled an offer of £30million plus £2.7million of add-ons for the Colombia international.

Di Marzio reports that the Dutch Eredivisie club are holding out for £38million for the 21-year-old, which means Spurs are more than £5million short of striking an agreement.

Nonetheless, it is said that the deal could still be done imminently as Sanchez wants to join Tottenham and become their first signing of the summer.

He is set to become Spurs' club-record signing and join for a fee in excess of the £30million spent on Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela.

Sanchez was omitted from the Ajax squad that faced Heracles on Saturday night after telling coaching staff he was not in the right frame of mind to play.

The south American defender has been targeted after making a huge impact at Ajax following his £3.8million transfer last summer.

Chairman Daniel Levy has come under fire from fans and Danny Rose for failing to make any signings so far this summer, but Tottenham remain confident they will land at least three new players before the transfer window shuts.
