Sander Berge has heart set on quitting Sheffield United - sources
Sander Berge has his heart set on leaving Sheffield United despite their promotion to the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.
A well-placed source has revealed the 25-year-old is keen to move on from Bramall Lane – either this summer or on a free transfer in 2024.
Sheffield United have been hamstrung in the summer window thus far due to the ongoing takeover saga at the club.
As such, the Blades may have to boost their own transfer kitty by selling players in the market.
Berge is a player who could exit due to his precarious contract situation – with his deal at the club set to expire in just over 12 months.
Sources have told Football Insider that there has been no indication or positive negotiations to suggest the Norway international will pen renewed terms at Bramall Lane.
As such, it is believed club chiefs feel this summer could be the best time to sell – with the midfielder able to negotiate a free transfer exit to a foreign side in January 2024.
Berge made 43 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 season, notching seven goals and six assists.
The 36-cap Norway star has been at Sheffield United since joining them in the Premier League in January 2020 – with the Blades paying Genk a reported club-record £22million.
He has made 109 total appearances for the club, notching 15 goals and 12 assists.
Sheffield United are expected to return to pre-season training at the start of next month ahead of their first friendly against Chesterfield on 15 July.
The Blades’ first Premier League fixture is a home clash with Crystal Palace on 12 August.
