Sandro Tonali: Newcastle ‘doing everything’ to block star joining Premier League rivals
Sandro Tonali is wanted by several Premier League clubs but Newcastle United are set to demand a hefty fee for his services to warn off suitors ahead of the summer window.
Tonali’s future at St James’ Park is uncertain going into the summer after Newcastle’s disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
The Italy international has continued to be standout under Eddie Howe, but has not been able to help his side into European contention this season.
The likes of Man City, Man United and Arsenal have been linked to Tonali, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Newcastle still have no plans to let him leave as it stands.
Newcastle’s transfer plans will be affected by their faltering form and likely lack of European football, with several top players set to be linked away throughout the upcoming window.

Magpies boss Howe has admitted that he is expecting a “bigger challenge” in the transfer market this summer following their poor recent form.
Newcastle are set to demand a huge fee for Tonali’s services in the coming months to ward off suitors from the Premier League and beyond.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “It will be hard to keep hold of him, but Newcastle will do everything they can to keep hold of him by probably putting a huge price tag on his head.
“With Newcastle maybe not having any European football on offer, it could see them lose a number of players, we do expect them maybe to have to wheel and deal in this transfer window to balance the books.”
“Other players might leave before him, and if they do, that might mean they do not need to cash in on Tonali.
“I’m sure those clubs that are interested in Tonali will probably chance their arm and try to persuade Newcastle to do a deal for him, but as things stand right now, they want to keep hold of him.”
Newcastle accelerating new contract talks with Lewis Miley amid PL interest
Miley is seen as vital to Newcastle’s long-term plans and could be an eventual successor to Tonali in the middle of the park.
The 20-year-old has reinforced his importance to Howe in recent weeks by filling in well at right-back amid Tino Livramento’s latest injury concerns.
Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle want to give Miley a new contract as interest in his signature from other Premier League clubs grows ahead of the summer.
His current deal does not expire until 2029, but the Magpies’ board are keen to improve his terms to better reflect his standing in Howe’s squad.
