Robbie Savage likes the idea of his former manager Martin O’Neill taking a job in the Premier League with either West Bromwich Albion or Everton.
The retired midfielder was asked on BT Sport’s Facebook Live session on Saturday whether WBA or Everton should consider O’Neill to be their new manager, and Savage had no doubts that O’Neil was a good appointment for either side.
“Yes, I heard a few people saying after Republic of Ireland went out against Denmark that Martin O’Neil wasn’t a very good manager but I disagree,” revealed Savage.
The BT Sport pundit continued: “When you’ve worked with the guy, you know what he brings, you know what he can offer and he can galvanise the squad.”
The 43-year-old added O’Neill has this effect on teams even though he lets his coaches take control on the training field.
The pundit then finally added, making his stance clear: “At this stage of this season when you’re looking to a man with experience, Martin O’Neil is the perfect appointment.”
The current Republic of Ireland manager has been made favourite by the bookies for the manager’s job at Everton, priced at 4/5 with SkyBet.
O’Neill last job at a domestic club was in 2013 with Sunderland. He was dismissed from that role, leaving The Black Cats one point about the relegation zone.
