Scott Hogan delivers verdict ahead of Aston Villa clash with Ipswich

By Amir Mir

Scott Hogan has stated that he is hoping to score his first goal for Aston Villa on his home debut against Ipswich on Saturday.

The 24-year-old, who made a deadline day switch to the Midlands from Championship rivals Brentford, will be looking to take to the field against Mick McCarthy’s side.

Hogan has already featured in a Villa shirt when manager Steve Bruce gave him his debut during the 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

He played 84 minutes during that encounter as Bruce opted to use the striker alongside Villa star man Jonathan Kodjia who scored on the night.

Former non-league player Hogan has already played at Villa Park this season when his Brentford side picked up a 1-1 draw in September.

The new January recruit spoke about that match and explained what it will be like playing in front of a big crowd at the weekend.

“We played Villa on a Tuesday night and for some reason, the atmosphere was the best I’ve played at in my career,” said Hogan, as posted by the club’s official Twitter account. “At Newcastle, you have 52,000 it was packed but it just felt like there was an atmosphere there.

“You want to score your first goal there and I’m hoping to get that as soon as possible and kick on. I’ve scored goals in front of 3,000 at Rochdale, 10,000 at Brentford so I’m sure scoring in front of so many people at Villa Park, it will be one of the best things I have done.”

Hogan played the full match for Dean Smith’s side on that night against then-Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo but he failed to find the back of the net.

This season, the highly-rated striker has scored a total of 14 goals in 26 league games, mainly for his former club as he will be looking to have the same impact at Villa.

Bruce’s side are currently on a winless streak, having not won a match since their 2-1 win against Burton on Boxing Day.
