Hearts: UEFA have 'question marks' over Tony Bloom as 'storm clouds' gather for Brighton chief

UEFA are set to dig deeper into the involvement of Tony Bloom at both Brighton and Scottish Premiership side Hearts in the coming years.

That is according to former Everton and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that there could be "clouds on the horizon" for the analytics expert.

This comes after both Brighton and Hearts secured their qualification for European competitions next term, with the former in the UEFA Conference League and the latter involved in Champions League qualifying.

Wyness believes that the pair will be safe from any breaches of UEFA's multi-club ownership rules this time around, but the involvement of Bloom's Jamestown Analytics will have UEFA sniffing around both clubs.

Bloom's company have been heavily involved in Brighton's recruitment in recent years, and have also begun to apply similar methods at Tynecastle.

The Jambos came within a whisker of their first Scottish Premiership title since 1960 in the first season of Bloom's involvement, and they have their eyes on even bigger feats in the coming years.

UEFA to keep close eye on Jamestown influence

Aberdeen's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a company advising elite clubs - believes that Bloom will have taken the necessary measures to ensure that his teams are clear of UEFA's multi-club rules.

He is also the owner of Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise, who have a Champions League qualifying spot, and Wyness feels that his "empire" could face scrutiny from UEFA.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he made it clear that UEFA must decide exactly how influential Bloom is at Hearts in order to weigh up whether he should be able to escape breaching the multi-club rules.

"Bloom will have been combing through the rules and making sure that they're safe and up at the moment, but I think it is just for the moment," Wyness said.

"UEFA have very firmly got their sights on multi-club ownership situations, and with the amount of influence that Jamestown Analytics has, even though he's a minority shareholder at Hearts, you've got to say there's a question mark about whether they really do have an involvement in the football side.

"Jamestown is a very serious operation that's proven with success, and that's the attraction.

"I expect UEFA to start looking even further, and I think there could be storm clouds on the horizon for Bloom's empire in the coming seasons. But at the moment, I think they'll be okay."

Hearts' Lawrence Shankland replacement plan - 'I'm hearing...'

Wyness recently told Football Insider that Bloom is set to help Hearts sign an "eye-opening" replacement for Lawrence Shankland this summer.

Derek McInnes' side recently lost their star striker to Rangers due to a clause within his contract, and the Edinburgh outfit are now focusing on finding the right replacement for the departing captain.

Wyness suggested that he is "hearing" that Hearts are considering some very "interesting" replacements, as they aim to get a deal for the best value for money.

Shankland surpassed the 20-goal mark in three of his four seasons at Tynecastle, but Bloom's expertise could prove vital in finding someone who can step into his shoes.
