Scots pundit: Baldock is the perfect Celtic signing - and I should know...
Alan Hutton has urged Celtic to push for a move to sign George Baldock from Sheffield United this summer.
The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted both fans and Ange Postecoglou would love the 28-year-old’s work ethic.
As reported by the Daily Record (June 27th), Baldock is among the Hoops’ top targets in the hunt for a new right-back.
The report states Celtic considered the Blades star as a replacement for Mikael Lustig in 2019 but he remained with United.
Hutton, who faced Baldock twice during his career, insisted he would be an excellent signing.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Technically, he’s very good. Great engine, gets up and down and great delivery.

“He’s got Premier League experience, Championship experience, he’s kind of got it all. I have played against him, I know him well and he is a very tough customer.
“I think someone like that coming in would be absolutely ideal. It’s a position where they need to strengthen. Obviously, Jonjoe Kenny came in and did okay.
“I don’t think it was ever going to be a permanent deal to begin with, he didn’t really set the heather alight. To bring in the likes of Baldock, he’s got that hard work mentality.
“I think that’s what Postecoglou likes within his team listening to his interviews.
“He is one I think the Celtic fans would like there. I think the manager would like him. It could be a top signing if they can get it done.”
Baldock played 32 times in the Premier League, primarily as a wing-back, as the Blades were relegated last term.
He has 70 top-flight, 76 Championship, 89 League One and 44 League Two appearances under his belt to date.
