Celtic transfer mission: Club eye striker with low release clause - report
By Will Butcher
Celtic scouts watched Cork City’s Seanie Maguire score on Friday night as they keep tabs on the in-form striker, according to a report.
The Daily Record claim the 22-year-old was watched by Brendan Rodgers’ spies at Turners’ Cross as Cork made it eleven wins out of eleven with a 2-1 win over Bray Wanderers.
Maguire struck his 12th goal in 17 league and cup encounters during the 2-1 win, while three of his goals this season have come in Europa League qualifiers against Linfield and Hacken.
It is believed that English Championship side Preston are also interested in the former West Ham striker, who is reported as having a release clause worth a meagre £120,000.
Luton-born Maguire is out of contract at the end of the season, with only eight months remaining on his current deal and that could force Cork into cashing in on their star striker.

Cork’s number 24 was top scorer in Ireland’s top flight last season with a huge 29 goals in all competitions, after joining City back in January 2016 from Dundalk.
Maguire struggled to have an impact with West Ham as well as a loan spell with Accrington Stanley, but his inspired recent form could give him a second chance away from Ireland.
Football Insider verdict:
Showing huge signs of promise, the young striker still has plenty of years left in his career and would certainly find the back of the net in the Scottish Premiership should former Liverpool boss Rodgers look to sign him. However, in what is a crucial stage of Maguire’s development, he must consider whether a move to the Scottish champions would benefit his career as his stock continues to surge. With the likes of Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths occupying Rodgers’ striking options, Maguire would struggle to earn any kind of run in the side. Game time is desperately needed to help the forward continue to gain the confidence needed to make it at the top level, and moving to Celtic to sit on the sidelines would be a huge waste of just that.
